These recordings were made in 1941 for an experiment
in the use of audio/visual aids for science teaching in the Rochester,
NY, schools under a grant-in-aid from the Committee on Scientific Aids
to Learning of the National Research Council.
Philip Rulon narrates the soundtrack to slide shows on
various elementary scientific topics, Air, Gases in the Air, The
Weather, Water Supply, and Heating Our Homes. The "A Side" (Part
1) and "B Side" (Part 2) of each disc cover the same material slightly
differently. Possibly they recorded 2 takes per subject or a variation
on the script which was part of the study. The voice on fourth record,
The Water Supply sounds very different from the other
four. Perhaps someone filled in for Philip Rulon during that recording
session.
